Mai Chau does not have a major bus station within the town center or a train station or airport. Public buses generally arrive at Tong Dau Junction, which is approximately 5 kilometers from the main villages.

Public Bus:

Buses to Mai Chau primarily depart from Hanoi's My Dinh, Giap Bat, or Yen Nghia bus stations, with Yen Nghia being a common departure point. The journey typically takes between 3.5 to 4.5 hours. A one-way ticket usually costs between 80,000 VND and 200,000 VND (approximately $3.50 - $9 USD), varying by bus type. Upon arrival at Tong Dau Junction, local taxis, motorbike taxis (xe ôm), or pre-arranged pickups are needed to reach Mai Chau town.

Limousine Van/Shuttle Bus:

For a more comfortable experience, limousine vans or shuttle buses are available, often providing air conditioning and reclining seats. These services can offer direct pick-up from Hanoi's Old Quarter and drop-off closer to accommodation in Mai Chau. The travel time is typically around 3 to 3.5 hours. Costs can range from approximately $10 to $32 USD for a one-way trip.

Private Car/Taxi:

Opting for a private car or taxi offers convenience and flexibility, including door-to-door service and the ability to make stops for photographs. The drive from Hanoi to Mai Chau takes approximately 3 to 3.5 hours. A one-way private car transfer typically costs between 1,500,000 VND and 2,500,000 VND (approximately $65 - $110 USD), with prices varying based on vehicle size.

Motorbike:

Adventurous travelers can ride a motorbike from Hanoi to Mai Chau, a journey that offers scenic views, especially after Hoa Binh City and through Thung Ke Pass. This option usually takes 4 to 5 hours. Motorbike rental costs around 150,000 VND per day (about $6 USD), excluding fuel. This mode of transport is recommended for experienced riders due to varying road conditions and traffic.
