Chiang Mai is served by Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX) for air travel, the Chiang Mai Railway Station for train services, and multiple bus terminals, primarily Arcade Bus Terminals 2 and 3, for long-distance routes.

By Air:

Travellers can fly into Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX). Direct flights from Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang airports) typically take around 1 hour and 10 to 1 hour and 25 minutes. Fares for these flights can start from approximately $13 (USD) for a one-way journey. International flights are also available, for example, from San Francisco, with prices starting from around $649 (USD) for a round trip.

By Train:

An overnight train journey from Bangkok's Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal to Chiang Mai Railway Station is a popular option, taking between 10 to 14 hours. Ticket prices vary by class, with 2nd class air-conditioned sleeper berths costing approximately ฿1,011 to ฿1,291 (around $28-$36 USD) and 1st class berths ranging from ฿1,753 to ฿1,903 (around $49-$53 USD).

By Bus:

Long-distance buses depart from Bangkok's Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal and arrive at Chiang Mai's Arcade Bus Terminals (Terminals 2 and 3), with journeys typically lasting 10 to 15 hours. Bus fares from Bangkok to Chiang Mai generally range from ฿300 for a basic bus to ฿850 for a modern express bus (approximately $9-$24 USD).
