Nong Khai is primarily served by its central Bus Terminal and the Nong Khai Railway Station, both facilitating travel within Thailand and to neighboring Laos. Udon Thani International Airport (UTH) is the nearest airport for air travel, located approximately 50-60 kilometers south.

By Train to/from Bangkok:

Direct train services connect Nong Khai Railway Station with Bangkok's Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal. Journeys typically range from 8 hours 45 minutes to 11 hours 15 minutes, with ticket prices varying from approximately ฿190 to ฿1,500. Overnight sleeper berths are available, offering a comfortable travel option.

By Bus to/from Bangkok:

Direct bus services operate between Nong Khai Bus Terminal and Bangkok's Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal. The travel time is generally between 9 and 11 hours, with fares ranging from approximately ฿459 to ฿1,100. Both day and overnight services are available.

By Flight (via Udon Thani) to/from Bangkok:

While Nong Khai does not have an airport, Udon Thani International Airport (UTH) is a short drive away. Flights from Bangkok's Don Mueang (DMK) and Suvarnabhumi (BKK) airports to Udon Thani take about an hour, with prices starting from approximately ฿909 for one-way and ฿1,680 for round-trip. From Udon Thani, shared minivans or taxis can transfer travelers to Nong Khai in about an hour, costing around ฿200-300 for minivans or ฿600-800 for taxis. This combined option offers the fastest travel time of approximately 3-4 hours door-to-door.

To/from Vientiane (Laos):

  • Train:: An international train service connects Nong Khai Railway Station directly to Khamsavath Railway Station near Vientiane, Laos, with a journey time of approximately 30 minutes.
  • Bus:: Direct international buses regularly depart from Nong Khai Bus Terminal to Vientiane's Talat Sao Station, with a travel time of around 2 hours and fares from approximately ฿70 to ฿158.
  • Minivan:: Minivan transfers are also available from Nong Khai to Vientiane, with travel times as short as 30 minutes and costs from approximately ฿592.

Local Transport in Nong Khai:

Tuk-tuks are readily available for transport within Nong Khai town and to the train station or border, typically costing around ฿50-80 per person for a journey into the town center from the train station or border.
