Bagan is primarily served by Nyaung-U Airport (NYU) for air travel, the Bagan Shwe Pyi Highway Bus Terminal for bus services, and the Bagan Railway Station for train connections. For river travel, Nyaung U jetty serves as the arrival and departure point for ferries.

By Air:

Flights arrive at Nyaung-U Airport (NYU), located approximately 9 km from Bagan. Direct domestic flights are available from Yangon, Mandalay, Heho, and Naypyidaw. A one-way flight from Yangon can start from approximately US$118. A taxi from Nyaung-U Airport to Bagan typically takes 10-20 minutes and costs between US$8-11.

By Bus:

The main bus hub is the Bagan Shwe Pyi Highway Bus Terminal. Overnight buses from Yangon take about 9-10 hours, with VIP services (e.g., JJ Express or Bagan Minn Thar Express) costing around 18,500 kyat (approximately US$11-14). Buses also connect from Mandalay and Inle Lake. A taxi from the bus terminal to Nyaung U or Bagan can take 15-20 minutes, with fares around 8,000-10,000 kyat (approximately US$6-8).

By Train:

The Bagan Railway Station offers connections from major cities. An overnight train from Yangon to Bagan takes approximately 17-18 hours, with Upper Class seats costing around US$23.10. A direct train service runs from Mandalay to Bagan, taking about seven hours and costing approximately US$6 for a one-way ticket.

By Ferry:

An express ferry service operates daily from Mandalay to Bagan, departing at 7 a.m. and taking 8-9 hours. A one-way ticket costs about US$40-45 and includes breakfast. A slower ferry covering the same route takes 14-17 hours and costs around US$10. Ferry services may be limited or suspended during the dry season (April, May, June) due to low water levels.
