Thakhek primarily utilizes bus stations as its main transport hubs for arriving and departing visitors. The Interprovincial Bus Station, also known as the South Bus Station or KM4 bus station, is located about 5 kilometers east of the city center and serves interprovincial and international routes. Additionally, there are local bus stations and a morning market bus station for shorter distances.

From Vientiane:

Direct buses are available from Vientiane's Southern Bus Station, including VIP sleeper and standard local options. The journey typically takes 8 to 9 hours, with costs ranging from $16 to $26 USD. Minivans are also an option, often completing the trip in 6 to 7 hours, with prices starting around $6.25 USD, though private VIP vans are significantly more expensive.

From Pakse:

Buses connect Pakse to Thakhek, with travel times ranging from 5 to 8 hours. Night buses from Pakse stop in Thakhek around 2 AM. Mini-vans are also available for approximately 50,000 kip (around $6.25 USD).

From Savannakhet:

Local buses and minivans depart from Savannakhet bus station, with express bus services costing around $9.94 USD and taking approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes.

From Nakhon Phanom, Thailand:

An international bus service operates across the Third Friendship Bridge, running hourly or every 90 minutes from 08:00 to 17:30. The cross-border journey, including customs, takes about 1.5 hours, and payment is required in Thai Baht.
