The primary arrival and departure point for Ubud, Indonesia, is Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), also known as Denpasar Airport, located approximately 37 to 42 kilometers south of Ubud. Ubud itself does not have a dedicated airport or train station.

Private Airport Transfer:

This is a highly recommended and convenient option, with drivers meeting travelers directly at the airport. The journey typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours, but can extend to 2.5 hours depending on traffic. Costs generally range from IDR 350,000 to IDR 750,000 (approximately $20-$55 USD) per car, varying by service and exact destination within Ubud.

Official Airport Taxis:

Taxis are available at kiosks inside the Arrivals Hall. Fares are often fixed, around IDR 300,000 to IDR 500,000 (approximately $20-$35 USD), though negotiation may be required. Travel time is similar to private transfers, usually 1.5 to 2 hours.

Ride-hailing Apps (Grab/GoJek):

These services offer competitive rates, potentially between IDR 150,000 and IDR 450,000 ($10-$30 USD). However, airport pickups might be restricted, requiring users to meet drivers at designated points outside the terminal. Travel times are comparable to taxis.

Shuttle Buses (e.g., Kura-Kura Bus, Perama Tour):

These are a more budget-friendly option. For the Kura-Kura Bus, a 15-20 minute walk to Lippo Mall in Kuta is usually required as there is no direct airport stop. The journey to Ubud takes about 2 hours, but services are limited, often operating only twice daily (8:00 AM and 2:00 PM). Fares are around IDR 20,000 to IDR 80,000. Perama Tour offers daily buses from Ubud directly to the airport for approximately Rp 65,000 - Rp 220,000, taking about 2 hours.

Public Bus (Teman Bus):

Bali's public bus system is the most economical choice, with fares around IDR 4,400 (AUD $0.50) per trip. This option is the least convenient, requiring transfers; typically, one takes a bus from the airport to East Denpasar and then another to Ubud, extending the total travel time significantly compared to private transport.

Scooter Rental:

For independent travelers with light luggage, renting a scooter (starting from AUD $14/day) allows flexibility and can navigate traffic more easily.
