Leh is served by Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport (IXL), one of the world's highest commercial airports, situated only a few kilometers from the city center. The New Bus Stand, located on the outskirts of Leh, functions as a primary hub for regional and inter-state bus services.

By Air:

Flying to Leh is typically the most convenient option. Direct flights from major Indian cities like Delhi take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, with fares often starting around ₹5,030. Passengers generally cannot carry hand baggage on flights to Leh due to security protocols.

By Road (Buses):

Seasonal bus services connect Leh to various cities.

  • From Delhi, a two-day HRTC bus journey, including an overnight stop in Keylong, costs around ₹1,356-₹1,380.
  • From Manali, direct buses take a full day and cost approximately ₹833, or a two-day journey with an overnight halt in Keylong is available.
  • From Srinagar, a two-day bus journey typically includes an overnight stay in Kargil, with fares ranging from ₹470 to ₹1,320.

By Road (Taxis/Private Vehicles):

Private taxis are available from Manali or Srinagar. A shared taxi or tempo traveler from Srinagar to Leh costs approximately ₹2,000-₹2,500 per person and takes 14-16 hours. If arriving in a self-drive rental car from outside Ladakh, local Ladakh-based taxis must be hired for sightseeing within the region, such as for Nubra Valley or Pangong Tso, due to local regulations. Road journeys are long and pass through high mountain passes, requiring careful acclimatization to the altitude.
