Getting There and Away

Tena's primary transport hub is the Terminal Terrestre (main bus terminal), located on Avenida 15 de Noviembre between Calle Montero and Avenida del Chofer. While the terminal itself may appear modest, it serves as a key connection point for the Amazon region of Ecuador.

From Quito:

  • Buses depart from Quito's Terminal Terrestre Quitumbe. The journey to Tena takes approximately 4 to 6 hours and costs between $6 and $15.
  • Several bus companies, including Amazonas Cooperativa de Transportes, Transportes Flota Pelileo, Expreso Baños, and Transportes Baños, operate on this route.
  • Private car hire is also an option, taking around 3 to 4 hours, with costs varying.

From Baños:

  • Direct buses from Baños de Agua Santa to Tena Terminal Terrestre take approximately 2 hours and 11 minutes and cost $4 to $14.
  • Riobamba Cooperativa de Transportes is one of the operators on this route.

From Puyo:

  • Direct buses from Puyo to Tena take about 1 hour and 40 minutes and cost $2 to $13.
  • Services depart frequently, often every 30 minutes to an hour.
  • Transportes Jumandy is a common operator for this route.

Within Tena:

  • Small yellow truck-taxis are readily available in the city and typically cost around $1.00 to $3.00 for rides within the city.
