1. Snorkeling or Diving in the Barrier Reef and Crab Cay
The waters around Providencia offer access to the third-largest barrier reef globally, providing exceptional snorkeling and diving experiences. Visitors can explore vibrant coral reefs teeming with diverse marine life, including colorful fish and turtles. Crab Cay (Cayo Cangrejo) is a highlight, a small rocky island surrounded by clear blue water, perfect for underwater exploration. Early morning visits to Crab Cay are recommended to avoid crowds and strong sun.
Cost: A snorkeling boat trip typically costs around 100,000 COP. For diving, an Open Water certificate course in 2023 was approximately US$300 for three days, while individual dives were about US$30, including equipment. Visitors can also self-kayak to Crab Cay from Deep Blue Hotel for about 30,000 COP per person.
Transport: Crab Cay is a short 10-minute boat ride from Providencia. Boats to Crab Cay can be arranged from Deep Blue Hotel. For other snorkeling and diving spots, boat tours are available from various local operators.
