Paraty's primary transport hub is the Paraty Bus Station (Rodoviária de Paraty), which serves as the central point for bus arrivals and departures.

From Rio de Janeiro:

  • Bus:: Direct services from Terminal Rodoviário Novo Rio are available, with journeys lasting approximately 4 hours 30 minutes to 5 hours 42 minutes. Ticket prices typically range from R$90 to R$120 (around $17-$25 USD).
  • Shared Van/Transfer:: Travelers can opt for shared van services, which generally take 3 hours 55 minutes to 5 hours and cost approximately $45-$54 USD.
  • Car Rental/Private Transfer:: Driving to Paraty takes about 3 hours 33 minutes to 4 hours, with estimated fuel costs between R$130 and R$200. Private transfers are also an option, with costs starting from around $135 USD for a 4-5 hour journey.

From São Paulo:

  • Bus:: Buses depart from Tietê Bus Terminal. Direct routes, such as those offered by FlixBus, take around 6 hours 5 minutes to 6 hours 23 minutes and can cost from €13.48 to $25.98 USD (approximately R$65 to R$130). Some routes with transfers via São Sebastião may take 5 hours 55 minutes to 7 hours 47 minutes, with costs ranging from R$110 to R$200 (around $22-$63 USD).
  • Minibus/Shared Transfer:: Door-to-door minibus services are available from downtown São Paulo and Guarulhos International Airport (GRU).
  • Car Rental/Private Transfer:: Driving typically takes 4 hours to 4 hours 7 minutes, with estimated fuel costs between R$140 and R$210. Private transfers from São Paulo or GRU Airport are also offered.

Airports:

The nearest major international airports are São Paulo International Airport (GRU) and Rio de Janeiro International Airport (GIG), both approximately 4 hours away by car. Santos Dumont Airport (SDU) in Rio de Janeiro serves primarily domestic flights.

Car Rental:

Car rentals are available in Paraty and major cities like Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, with daily rates starting from approximately $20-$26 USD. Renters typically need to be at least 21 years old, possess a valid driver's license held for a minimum of two years, and present a photo ID or passport. An International Driver's Permit is recommended for licenses not in Portuguese.
