The primary transport hub for reaching Barreirinhas is São Luís, which has a major international airport (Marechal Cunha Machado International Airport - SLZ) and a central bus terminal. Barreirinhas itself has a regional airport (Barreirinhas Lençóis Maranhenses Regional Airport - BRB), but it does not operate scheduled commercial flights.
