How to get around Argentina
Navigating Argentina is straightforward with a variety of public and private transport options. Here's what you need to know about getting between and within its cities and towns.
Inter-City Travel
For traveling between cities in Argentina, long-distance buses are widely available and offer various comfort levels. 'Semi-cama' provides basic reclining seats, while 'cama' and 'cama ejecutivo' offer more recline, wider seats, and sometimes amenities like meals, typically at higher prices.
Domestic flights are the fastest option, with Aerolíneas Argentinas, Flybondi, and JetSmart operating routes. Low-cost airlines can sometimes be cheaper than buses, especially when booked in advance.
Train travel is limited, slower, and less frequent than buses, but generally more economical, connecting key cities like Buenos Aires, Rosario, Córdoba, and Tucumán. Car rental is the most expensive way to travel long distances, with average daily prices ranging from $27 to $77 USD, depending on the city and car size.
Travel Within Cities
Within major cities like Buenos Aires, public transport is efficient and economical. The 'Subte' (subway) in Buenos Aires is the fastest way to travel, costing around AR$757 (approximately USD 0.76) per ride. 'Colectivos' (buses) offer an extensive network, with fares starting at AR$270 (approximately USD 0.30) and varying by distance.
Suburban trains are suitable for trips outside the city center, with fares beginning at AR$130 (approximately USD 0.15). A reloadable SUBE card is required for all public transport in Buenos Aires. Taxis and rideshare services like Uber and Didi are also available; rideshare options are often more affordable than traditional taxis.
