Dunedin is served by Dunedin Airport (DUD) for air travel, approximately 22-30 kilometers southwest of the city center. For ground transportation, the city's main public transport hub is the Dunedin Bus Hub on Great King Street, while intercity buses operate from a central stop at 331 Moray Place.
Flights (Dunedin Airport - DUD):
Domestic flights are frequent from Auckland (approx. 1h 50m - 1h 55m, from $70-$109), Christchurch (approx. 1h 10m, from $78), and Wellington (approx. 1h 20m) with Air New Zealand and Jetstar.
International flights from Gold Coast, Australia, operate thrice-weekly (approx. 3h 20m) via Jetstar.
Airport Transfers:: Shuttles cost approximately NZD $20-$25 for one person to the city center (within 5km of The Octagon), with pre-booking recommended. Taxis to the CBD are around $60.
Buses (Intercity):
Services connect Dunedin to major South Island cities. Travel from Christchurch takes approximately 6 hours (from $45-$75).
Journeys from Queenstown average 4 hours 40 minutes.
Buses from Invercargill take about 3 hours 15 minutes to 3 hours 42 minutes (from $34-$90).
The main intercity bus stop is located at 331 Moray Place, Platform K.
Car Rental:
Car rental companies are available at Dunedin Airport and various city locations.
SUV rentals average $41 per day, with deals sometimes as low as $24 per day.
A full, valid driver's license (or International Driving Permit) is required, and the minimum age is generally 21.
