Martinborough's hotel scene provides a range of quality accommodations, from historic establishments in the village centre to luxurious resorts set amidst vineyards and unique boutique apartments.
1. The Martinborough Hotel
Type: Historic Hotel
This historic hotel, originally built in 1882, sits proudly in the heart of Martinborough village. I found its blend of old-world charm with modern comfort particularly appealing, featuring period-style furniture and elegant rooms. The on-site Union Square Bistro & Bar creates a welcoming atmosphere, providing an excellent spot for guests and locals to gather for dining and drinks. Its central location makes it easy to walk to boutique shops, restaurants, and vineyards, ideal for those seeking a romantic escape or a weekend getaway.
2. Parehua Resort
Type: Resort (Cottages, Suites, Villas)
Nestled within sprawling gardens and working vineyards, Parehua Resort offers a tranquil experience. I appreciated the variety of accommodation, from elegant suites to private cottages, some featuring hot tubs. The resort's setting is perfect for those desiring relaxation and luxury. The on-site York Bistro and extensive event spaces make it suitable for both intimate getaways and larger gatherings.
3. The Chambers Martinborough Boutique Accommodation
Type: Boutique Studio Apartments
Housed within a historic building, The Chambers offers distinctive and luxurious studio apartments. I experienced the unique blend of historical elements with contemporary design, particularly the spacious bathrooms with large, round bathtubs – some set against original stone walls and illuminated by skylights for stargazing. These self-contained apartments provide a private and chic urban escape for couples or solo travellers, with an emphasis on comfort and style.
4. Brackenridge Country Retreat & Spa
Type: Country Retreat & Spa
Set on 14 acres of Wairarapa countryside, Brackenridge Country Retreat & Spa provides a serene environment focused on wellness. I found the indoor heated saltwater pool and the on-site spa, offering various therapeutic treatments, to be perfect for unwinding. This retreat is ideal for those seeking a luxurious and pampering escape in a picturesque rural setting.
