By Car:

Driving provides a popular and scenic way to reach Strahan. The journey from Hobart typically spans 3.5 to 4.5 hours (285-288 km), with estimated costs ranging from $55 to $85. From Launceston, the drive is approximately 3 hours 20 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes (around 271 km). From Devonport, allow about 2 hours 45 minutes (approximately 225 km). While major car rental companies operate in main Tasmanian cities, Drive Car Hire offers SUV rentals in Strahan by request, serviced from their Hobart office, and requires advance booking due to limited availability.

By Bus:

Public bus services connect Strahan to other Tasmanian towns; however, direct routes from major cities like Hobart or Launceston are generally not available, necessitating transfers. A bus journey from Hobart, including transfers, can take approximately 6 hours 36 minutes, costing between $28 and $32. From Launceston, a bus trip with transfers may take about 8 hours 36 minutes, with fares ranging from $35 to $50. Tassielink Transit provides a daily bus service between Strahan and Burnie via Queenstown, which can connect to intercity services.

By Air:

Strahan Airport (SRN) primarily handles charter and private flights, without regular passenger services from other Tasmanian airports. Major commercial airports closest to Strahan include Burnie/Wynyard (approximately a 2-hour drive), Devonport (around a 2-hour 45-minute drive), and Hobart (roughly a 4-hour drive). Flights to these regional airports are available from major Australian cities, with flights to Devonport starting from approximately $159.

By Ferry:

The Spirit of Tasmania ferry service operates daily between Melbourne and Devonport. Travelers can bring their own vehicle or arrange for a car rental upon arrival in Devonport, from where they can drive to Strahan.

By Train (Tourist Service Only):

The West Coast Wilderness Railway offers a heritage tourist experience between Strahan's Regatta Point Station and Queenstown, providing scenic journeys through the rainforest, and is not considered a general public transport option.
