The primary transport hubs for accessing the Bay of Fires region are Launceston Airport (LST) and Hobart Airport (HBA). The town of St Helens serves as the closest community and a key gateway to the southern reaches of the Bay of Fires.

Car Rental:

Renting a car is the most flexible and recommended way to reach and explore the Bay of Fires, as public transport within the area is limited. Car rental services are available at Launceston and Hobart airports, with costs for a small car in Tasmania starting from approximately AUD 22-23 per day.

Flights:

Visitors can fly into Launceston Airport, which is approximately a 2.5 to 3-hour drive from the Bay of Fires. Hobart Airport is another option, located about a 3.5 to 4-hour drive away.

Bus Services:

Limited bus services connect major cities to St Helens, the nearest town. A bus journey from Hobart to the Bay of Fires region (via transfers in Bicheno) typically takes around 5 hours 46 minutes to 6 hours 1 minute. From Launceston, Calow's Coaches operate a bus service to St Helens. There is no direct bus service from St Helens into the Bay of Fires conservation area itself.

Ferry:

Travelers can take a ferry across the Bass Strait to Devonport, then drive to the Bay of Fires.

Tours:

Guided multi-day hiking tours are available from Launceston, which include transport to and from the Bay of Fires. Full-day coach tours also depart from Launceston.
