1. Walk to Cape Byron Lighthouse and Most Easterly Point
Walking to the Cape Byron Lighthouse allows visitors to stand at the easternmost point of mainland Australia, offering expansive panoramic views of the ocean and coastline. The walk itself is scenic, winding through lush national parkland, and is an excellent spot for watching the sunrise. During winter months (May to November), it is also a prime location for spotting migrating humpback whales and dolphins. A visit to the Maritime Museum at the base of the lighthouse provides insight into its history.
Cost: Access to the lighthouse and walking tracks is free. If driving, parking fees apply: $10 per vehicle per hour at the lighthouse lawn and information centre (maximum 1 hour), or $5 per vehicle/motorcycle per hour at Captain Cook lookout, Cosy Corner, and The Pass.
Transport: The lighthouse is approximately 2.7 km from Byron Bay town centre. It is a scenic 45-minute walk. Taxis are available, costing around $12–$15 for a 4-minute ride. Public buses run to Byron Bay, from where a taxi or shuttle can be taken to the lighthouse.
