Jasper's primary transport hubs include the Jasper Train Station for rail services and various pick-up points for bus and shuttle services. There is no airport directly in Jasper; instead, visitors use nearby international airports in Edmonton and Calgary. A local public transit system operates within the town and to some surrounding national park areas.

By Air:

There are no direct flights to Jasper. The nearest major international airports are Edmonton International Airport (YEG) and Calgary International Airport (YYC).

  • From Edmonton International Airport (YEG): Shuttle services, such as SunDog Tours, offer daily connections between the airport or West Edmonton Mall and Jasper. Travel times range from approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes to just under 5 hours, with costs starting around $75.07.
  • From Calgary International Airport (YYC): Shuttle services like SunDog Tours or Brewster Express provide connections to Jasper, often with a changeover in Banff. Bus travel from Calgary to Jasper averages 7 hours and 20 minutes, with prices ranging from $94 to $250.

By Train:

VIA Rail offers regular train service to Jasper from Edmonton and Vancouver.

  • From Vancouver: The VIA Rail "The Canadian" service takes approximately 19 hours, with basic economy seats starting around $148 CAD as of August 2023. Sleeper Plus and Prestige Class options are available at higher costs.
  • The Rocky Mountaineer also offers luxurious, multi-day train journeys from Vancouver to Jasper (via Whistler and Quesnel) starting at CAD $2245 for SilverLeaf service or CAD $4485 for GoldLeaf service in 2025, taking 2 to 3 days with overnight hotel stops.

By Bus/Shuttle:

  • From Edmonton: SunDog Tours provides daily shuttles to Jasper. Travel time is around 4 hours and 30 minutes to just under 5 hours, with prices starting from $75.07.
  • From Calgary: SunDog Tours and Brewster Express offer bus services; journeys often include a transfer in Banff. The average bus trip duration from Calgary to Jasper is 7 hours and 20 minutes, with prices from $94 to $250.
  • A new Hinton-Jasper bus service, operated by Sundog Tours, has also commenced operations.

By Car:

Driving provides flexibility. The Trans-Canada Highway 16 (Yellowhead Highway) serves as the main east-west route, and the Icefields Parkway (Route 93) connects Jasper with Lake Louise and Banff.

  • Car rental agencies are available in Jasper, as well as at Calgary and Edmonton International Airports. Daily car rental costs in Jasper can start from approximately $24-$69, depending on the company and time of year. Driving from Calgary to Jasper takes about 5 hours and 9 minutes, with estimated fuel costs between $80-$120.
