Safranbolu's main transport hub for intercity travel is its bus station, located a short distance from the town center. The nearby city of Karabük also serves as a crucial transit point, featuring a bus station and the closest railway station. For air travel, the nearest airports are in Zonguldak, Kastamonu, and Ankara.

By Bus:

Buses are a common way to reach Safranbolu. From Istanbul, a bus journey typically takes between 5 to 8.5 hours, with ticket prices ranging from 600₺ to 1500₺. Services are provided by companies such as Pamukkale, Efe Tur, Metro Turizm, and FlixBus. From Ankara, buses take approximately 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours 40 minutes, costing between 410₺ and 1000₺. Many intercity buses arrive at Karabük's bus station, requiring a short dolmuş (shared minibus) or taxi ride to reach Safranbolu.

By Train:

Safranbolu does not have its own train station; the closest one is in Karabük, about 8 km away. Regional trains operate daily between Karabük and Zonguldak, with a journey time of around 3 hours. A weekly 'Tourist Train', the Karaelmas Express, also runs from Ankara to Zonguldak, making a stop in Karabük. Train travel can be slower compared to buses.

By Air:

The region is served by Zonguldak Airport (ONQ), Kastamonu Airport (KFS), and Ankara Esenboğa Airport (ESB). Zonguldak Airport is the closest, approximately 57.9 km away, with connections taking about 2 hours 4 minutes to Safranbolu via ground transport, and flights to Zonguldak from Istanbul can be part of the journey. Kastamonu Airport is about 91.9 km away, offering the fastest connection time of approximately 1 hour 51 minutes to Safranbolu by combining flight and ground transport. Ankara Esenboğa Airport is further, at around 128.8 km, taking about 5 hours 37 minutes to reach Safranbolu. After flying, a bus or taxi transfer is necessary to reach Safranbolu.

By Car/Private Transfer:

Driving from Istanbul covers about 401-437 km, taking approximately 4 hours 16 minutes to 4 hours 27 minutes, with estimated fuel costs ranging from 1900₺ to 2800₺. From Ankara, the drive is around 220-226 km, taking about 2 hours 35 minutes, costing between 1000₺ and 1600₺. Private transfer services from Istanbul are also available, with prices starting from approximately $575 per vehicle. Renting a car provides flexibility for exploring the surrounding areas beyond the town center.
