La Gomera offers a limited but welcoming selection of affordable accommodations, primarily found in its main towns, catering to independent travelers and those seeking a community feel amidst the island's natural beauty.
1. Hostal Colón
Type: Hostel/Guesthouse
Located centrally in San Sebastián de La Gomera, Hostal Colón offers a straightforward and clean base for exploring the island. I found the atmosphere to be relaxed, with both private rooms and dormitory beds available, providing opportunities to meet other travelers in communal spaces. It's a convenient choice for those arriving by ferry and keen to start hiking or explore the capital.
2. Cactus Hostel
Type: Co-living Hostel
Situated in San Sebastián de La Gomera, Cactus Hostel is tailored for community and digital nomads, creating a social environment for guests. It’s a place where I experienced an intentional focus on interaction, making it easy to connect with others. The hostel is located just a short walk from the beach, ideal for those who appreciate both natural surroundings and shared experiences.
3. Residencial El Llano
Type: Apartments
In the relaxed coastal town of Valle Gran Rey, Residencial El Llano provides comfortable and well-equipped apartments. I found this to be a great option for budget-conscious travelers who appreciate having their own space but still seek a communal feel around the swimming pool area. The atmosphere is laid-back, attracting a mix of independent travelers and small groups.
