The Isle of Mull is primarily accessed by ferry, with the main gateway being Oban on the Scottish mainland, which is well-connected by train and bus services from major cities like Glasgow and Edinburgh. Smaller ferry terminals at Lochaline and Kilchoan offer alternative routes, particularly for those traveling from the north or other islands.

From Oban to Craignure (Isle of Mull):

This is the most popular ferry route, operated by Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac). Ferries run frequently throughout the day, with a crossing time of approximately 45-55 minutes. A foot passenger ticket generally costs between £3-£28, while bringing a car can range from £22-£73. Booking vehicle space in advance is highly recommended, especially during peak seasons, with advice to book up to six weeks prior to travel.

From Lochaline to Fishnish (Isle of Mull):

This CalMac ferry service provides a shorter crossing of about 15-18 minutes and is suitable for those traveling from the north. It operates as a 'Turn Up and Go' service; however, advance purchase for tickets is available, and booking for vehicles is advisable. A foot passenger ticket typically costs £2-£4, and a car crossing is around £9.50.

From Kilchoan to Tobermory (Isle of Mull):

This CalMac route is useful if approaching from areas like Skye or Ardnamurchan. The journey takes approximately 35 minutes. This is also a 'Turn Up and Go' service where passengers typically do not need to book in advance, but it is best to book for vehicles. Foot passenger fares are around £3-£4, and a car crossing costs approximately £11.75.

Reaching Oban by Train:

Regular ScotRail services connect Glasgow Queen Street Station to Oban, with the journey taking approximately 3 hours 7 minutes and costing around £35-£45.

Reaching Oban by Bus:

Scottish Citylink operates bus services from Glasgow's Buchanan Bus Station to Oban, with a travel time of about 3 hours 3 minutes and fares ranging from £15-£22. Buses also run from Edinburgh's Princes Street to Oban, taking around 4 hours 7 minutes and costing £19-£27.
