Tavira is equipped with a central bus station, conveniently located a short walk from the main square, and a train station situated on the southern edge of town, also within walking distance of the center.

From Faro Airport (FAO) to Tavira:

  • Bus:: Take the local bus (number 14 or 16) from the airport to Faro bus station (approximately 20-30 minutes, around €2.20). From Faro bus station, take Vamus bus 67 to Tavira (approximately 1 hour, starting from €3.85-€4.50).
  • Train:: Take a local bus or taxi from Faro Airport to Faro train station (approximately 10-30 minutes, bus around €2.20, taxi €11-€16). From Faro train station, regional trains to Tavira take about 30-45 minutes and cost approximately €2-€5.
  • Taxi:: A direct taxi from Faro Airport to Tavira typically takes around 30-40 minutes and costs approximately €45-€70.
  • Uber/Bolt:: Rideshare services like Uber or Bolt are available, with a journey time of about 40 minutes and estimated costs under €40, though prices may increase with demand.
  • Car Rental:: Rental car offices are available at Faro Airport. Driving to Tavira via the A22 toll motorway takes just over 30 minutes, or a longer, free route via N125 takes around 45 minutes or more. Daily rental costs for a mini car can start from €16.

From Lisbon to Tavira:

  • Bus:: Express buses from Lisbon (Sete Rios terminal or Oriente Station) to Tavira take approximately 3 hours 55 minutes to 4 hours 40 minutes. Tickets typically cost between €10 and €27.
  • Train:: There are no direct trains from Lisbon to Tavira. A connection in Faro is required. The total journey can range from 3 hours 45 minutes to 4 hours 30 minutes. Tickets for an Intercidades (IC) and regional train combination start from €23.30, while an Alfa Pendular (AP) and regional train combination starts from €24.65.

Local Transport in Tavira:

  • Local Buses:: Vamus bus services connect Tavira to nearby villages like Cabanas de Tavira (15 minutes, Vamus bus 41) and Santa Luzia (10 minutes, Vamus bus 105). Local bus tickets are purchased from the driver.
  • Trains:: Regional trains run hourly along the Algarve line, connecting Tavira to Faro (40 minutes) to the west and Vila Real de Santo António to the east.
  • Ferries:: Ferries connect Tavira to Ilha de Tavira from the city center pier or Quatro Águas.
