Coimbra's main transport hubs include the Coimbra-B train station, which serves national high-speed and intercity routes, and Coimbra-A, a more central station connected to Coimbra-B by a short, free transfer. The city also operates a central bus station on Avenida Fernão de Magalhães.

From Lisbon by Train:

  • You can travel from Lisbon to Coimbra by high-speed Alfa Pendular or Intercidades trains, departing from Lisbon Santa Apolónia or Oriente stations.
  • Alfa Pendular journeys typically take about 1 hour and 36 minutes to 1 hour and 43 minutes, with 2nd class tickets ranging from approximately €24.10 to €25.70.
  • Intercidades trains take around 2 hours to 2 hours and 2 minutes, with 2nd class fares between €20.00 and €21.30.
  • All trains arrive at Coimbra-B, with a complimentary connecting train to Coimbra-A in the city center.

From Lisbon by Bus:

  • Direct bus services are available from Lisbon, provided by companies such as Rede Expressos and FlixBus, departing from Sete Rios or Oriente bus terminals.
  • The journey usually takes between 2 hours 15 minutes and 2 hours 45 minutes.
  • Fares can start from as low as €4.99 with FlixBus, while standard Rede Expressos tickets are around €15.00 to €15.50.
  • Buses arrive at Coimbra's central bus station.

From Porto by Train:

  • Regular train services, including Alfa Pendular and Intercidades, connect Porto to Coimbra, departing from Porto's Campanhã station. Campanhã is linked to the central São Bento station by a short, free train ride.
  • The faster Alfa Pendular service takes approximately 1 hour and 14 minutes, with 2nd class tickets costing about €17.60 to €20.00.
  • Intercidades trains have a travel time of about 1 hour and 22 minutes, with 2nd class tickets around €13.75 to €18.00.
  • Arrival is at Coimbra-B station, with a free onward transfer to Coimbra-A.

From Porto by Bus:
