The closest airport to Senja is Bardufoss (BDU), with flights typically taking approximately 1 hour 50 minutes from Oslo. Tromsø (TOS) and Harstad/Evenes (EVE) are larger airports offering more flight connections, including direct flights from some international destinations .
By Car:
Senja is connected to the mainland by the Gisund Bridge at Finnsnes, allowing year-round car access. The drive from Tromsø to Senja typically takes between 2.5 to 4 hours . Renting a car is highly recommended for exploring the island due to limited public transport . Rental car prices can vary, but generally start from around $136 per day .
By Car Ferry:
A year-round car ferry operates between Brensholmen (on Kvaløya, about a 1-hour drive from Tromsø) and Botnhamn on Senja, with a crossing time of approximately 45 minutes. It is advisable to arrive early, especially during summer, as capacity is limited and reservations are not possible .
