Bodø is served by a compact transport network, including Bodø Airport, a central train station marking the northern end of Norway's railway, and a ferry terminal for coastal and island connections, alongside a comprehensive local and regional bus system.

Flights:

Bodø Airport (BOO) is located approximately 1.2 km from the city center, accessible often by walking. Daily domestic flights connect Bodø with major Norwegian cities such as Oslo (approx. 80 minutes travel time, 300-1,000 NOK), Trondheim, Bergen, and Tromsø, operated by airlines like SAS, Norwegian, and Widerøe. Seasonal direct international flights from locations like Munich (Discover Airlines) and Stockholm and Copenhagen (SAS) are scheduled to begin in 2025.

Trains:

Bodø Train Station is the northernmost terminal of the Nordland Line. Direct long-distance trains operate daily to and from Trondheim, with journey times ranging from 9 hours 50 minutes to 10 hours 17 minutes, and tickets typically costing from 350-1,400 NOK. Travel from Oslo requires a transfer in Trondheim, resulting in a journey of around 17-18 hours.

Buses:

The city's Sentrumsterminalen is a hub for both local and regional bus services. Bodø operates a fully electric city bus fleet, with lines like 1 and 4 offering connections from Bodø Airport to the city center in about 5-8 minutes for approximately 44 NOK. Regional routes, such as 200 and 300, link Bodø to areas like Saltstraumen. Vy express (VY710) provides long-distance overnight bus services to Trondheim and Lillehammer, with the journey to Trondheim taking around 11 hours 24 minutes.

Ferries and Speedboats:

The ferry terminal in Bodø facilitates connections to the Lofoten Islands. Direct car ferries to Moskenes (Lofoten) take approximately 3.5 to 4 hours. A longer route making stops at Værøy and Røst extends the journey to about 7 hours. As of July 1, 2022, travel for foot passengers on the Bodø-Moskenes ferry is free, and specific sections to/from Værøy and Røst are also free for vehicles. Advance booking for vehicles is recommended due to limited capacity, especially in peak seasons. A passenger-only express boat service to Svolvær, which includes scenic coastal stops, is covered by the Travel Pass Nordland. Note that the winter route for the Bodø-Svolvær express boat was suspended in January 2025.

Car Rental:

Several car rental agencies, including Hertz, Sixt, Avis, Budget, Alamo, and Enterprise, are available at Bodø Airport and within the city. Renting a car offers flexibility for exploring the broader region via major routes like the E6 highway or the scenic Coastal Route (County Road 17).
