Kotor's primary transport hub is its main bus station, conveniently located near the Old Town. For air travel, the nearest airport is Tivat (TIV), with Podgorica (PGD) offering more international connections, and Dubrovnik (DBV) in Croatia also serving as a viable, albeit cross-border, option.
By Air to Tivat Airport (TIV):
Located approximately 7-8 kilometers from Kotor.
Taxi services are readily available, taking about 9-15 minutes with fares typically ranging from €4 to €10, though some services might be higher, so confirming the price beforehand is advisable.
A local bus runs from Tivat Bus Station, a short 10-15 minute walk from the airport, to Kotor in about 15 minutes for around €2.
Pre-booked private transfers are an option, costing from €15-€26 for a 12-15 minute journey.
By Air to Podgorica Airport (PGD):
Situated about 80 kilometers from Kotor.
A taxi ride typically takes 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes, with costs ranging from €50 to €100.
For a more budget-friendly option, I have taken a taxi from the airport to Podgorica Main Bus Station (approximately €15), followed by a bus to Kotor. The bus journey is around 2-3 hours and costs €8-€18.
Private transfers or shuttle services are also available, costing €10-€20 per person for a shuttle or €74-€120 for a private car, with a journey time of approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
By Air to Dubrovnik Airport (DBV, Croatia):
Located around 70 kilometers from Kotor, this option involves an international border crossing, which can extend travel times.
International buses connect Dubrovnik to Kotor, taking between 1 hour 50 minutes and 3 hours 30 minutes, depending on border control. Fares range from €24 to €42.
Private transfers are available, typically costing €70-€100.
During the summer season, a ferry service operates between Dubrovnik and Budva (a town near Kotor), taking about 2 hours and costing €50+. From Budva, a bus to Kotor takes less than an hour.
By Intercity/International Bus:
Kotor's bus station serves as a hub for various routes.
Direct buses from Podgorica run hourly, with a journey time of approximately 2 hours 5 minutes and fares from €8-€18.
From Belgrade, Serbia, daily buses typically take 11-12 hours and cost €31-€52.
I have also found buses connecting from Mostar, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and Tirana, Albania, though these journeys can be longer and involve border checks and potential transfers.
By Rental Car:
Car rental agencies operate in Kotor and at the airports. Daily rates can start from $15-$61, with prices varying based on season and vehicle type. Booking in advance is often beneficial for securing better rates.
By Taxi (Local):
Within Kotor, taxis are readily available. Services like Red Taxi can be booked via WhatsApp. A short trip, such as to the Kotor Cable Car, may cost around €7, while a journey to Perast could be approximately €30.
