Szentendre is easily accessible, primarily connected to Budapest, Hungary's capital, which serves as the main transport hub for journeys to and from the town. The Szentendre HÉV station is the primary arrival point for suburban trains, located a short walk from the historic town center. For those arriving by boat, the Danube promenade offers a picturesque disembarkation point.

By Train (HÉV H5):

This is generally the most recommended and efficient way. I found trains depart frequently, approximately every 10-20 minutes, from Budapest's Batthyány tér station (accessible via the M2 metro line) or Margaret Bridge, Buda side (Margit híd, Budai hídfő, served by trams 4/6). The journey to Szentendre HÉV station takes about 40 minutes. You will need two types of tickets: a standard Budapest public transport ticket or pass for the journey within Budapest up to Békásmegyer, and an additional extension ticket for the section from Békásmegyer to Szentendre. The extension ticket typically costs around 450 HUF (approx. 1.20 EUR), and it's advisable to validate it upon boarding.

By Boat:

During warmer months, typically from May to September, a scenic boat trip along the Danube is available. Services usually run on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with some Wednesday departures. Boats typically depart from Vigadó Square or Batthyány tér in Budapest and arrive at Szentendre's promenade in about 1 hour 30 minutes. A one-way ticket can cost approximately 3500 HUF (around 9 EUR). The return trip to Budapest is often faster, taking about 1 hour 10 minutes.

By Bus:

While less direct than the train, bus services are available. Buses often depart from Budapest's Újpest Városkapu and may require a transfer, leading to a total travel time of around 1 hour 25 minutes. A one-way ticket typically costs between 600-800 HUF (approx. 1.50-2.10 EUR).

By Car:

Driving provides flexibility, with the journey from Budapest taking approximately 20-30 minutes via Route 11, depending on traffic. This route is toll-free. However, parking in Szentendre is often limited and strictly regulated, which can make finding a spot challenging. Taxi services are also an option, with fares ranging from 12,000-15,000 HUF (approx. 31-39 EUR) for a one-way trip.

By Bicycle:

For the adventurous, a dedicated bike path (EuroVelo 6) follows the Danube River from Budapest to Szentendre. The approximately 25-kilometer ride typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours, offering a pleasant and scenic route.
