1. Explore Old Kardamyli and Mourtzinos Castle
Wander through the historic fortified settlement of Old Kardamyli, also known as Pano Kardamyli or Upper Kardamyli. This area features traditional Maniot architecture, including well-preserved stone houses and narrow alleys. Visitors can explore a restored Mani tower house, which provides insight into the region's past, as well as an 18th-century church, a cistern, and an olive press. The site offers panoramic views of Kardamyli and the sea. Allow about 45 minutes to fully experience the site.
Cost: There is a small entry fee to the Mourtzinos Castle complex, typically a few euros.
Transport: Old Kardamyli is located on the northeast side of the main village. It is accessible by a gradually inclining road and is about a ten-minute walk from the center. A small parking area is available near the fortified entrance.
