The primary arrival point for air travel is Aktion-Preveza Airport (PVK), located approximately 20-25 minutes drive from Lefkada Town. The island's main bus terminal, KTEL Lefkadas, is situated in Lefkada Town, serving both local and intercity routes. For sea travel, the ports of Nidri and Vassiliki facilitate connections to neighboring Ionian islands.

By Air:

  • Aktion-Preveza Airport (PVK):: This is the closest airport to Lefkada. Direct flights operate seasonally, typically from March/May to October, connecting with various European cities.
  • From PVK to Lefkada Town:: Taxis are available, with an indicative cost ranging from €35 to €75 and a travel time of 20-25 minutes. Public buses (KTEL) are a more economical option, costing approximately €2-€4, with a journey time of 25-40 minutes; however, services are limited, especially on weekends. Private transfers can also be pre-booked, with costs typically between €49 and €122, and a travel time of 25-30 minutes. Car rental services are readily available at the airport.
  • Athens International Airport (ATH):: Daily flights connect Athens with numerous global destinations. From Athens, reaching Lefkada is possible by car or bus.
  • From ATH to Lefkada:: Driving takes approximately 3.5-4 hours on comfortable toll motorways. Direct bus services from Athens' Liosion station to Lefkada take about 5-6 hours and cost around €35 one-way.
  • Thessaloniki Airport (SKG):: This airport is another option, though further than Athens. The drive to Lefkada on a good motorway takes approximately 4 hours 10 minutes. Bus connections are also available.

By Car:

Lefkada is uniquely accessible by car from the mainland via a causeway and a short floating bridge, eliminating the need for a ferry. This allows for direct driving from across Greece.

By Bus (KTEL):

The KTEL bus network offers both long-distance and local services.

  • Long-Distance:: Direct bus routes connect Lefkada Town with major Greek cities such as Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, and Igoumenitsa, as well as Preveza.
  • Local:: Buses operate frequently between Lefkada Town and popular coastal villages like Nidri, Vassiliki, and Agios Nikitas, particularly on the island's eastern side.

By Ferry:

There are no direct ferry connections to Lefkada from mainland Greece due to its bridge link. However, local ferries operate from Lefkada's ports of Nidri and Vassiliki to nearby Ionian Islands, including:

  • Ithaca (Frikes Port):: Ferries run seasonally from Vassiliki Port.
  • Kefalonia (Fiscardo Port/Sami Port):: Services connect Vassiliki Port to Fiscardo (approximately 1 hour, around €10) and Lefkada (town) to Sami (approximately 3.5 hours, around €19).
  • Meganisi:: Ferries depart from Nidri Port.
