Paris is well-served by two primary international airports, Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Orly (ORY), along with several major train stations like Gare du Nord, Gare de Lyon, and Gare Montparnasse, which act as crucial gateways for regional, national, and international travel.

By Air:

  • From Charles de Gaulle (CDG):: The RER B train offers the most efficient way to central Paris, with journeys to Gare du Nord taking approximately 30 minutes. Taxis are also readily available, costing around €60-€70 for a ride to the city center.
  • From Orly (ORY):: The Metro Line 14 now provides a direct, fast connection to central Paris in about 25 minutes. Alternatively, the OrlyBus connects to Denfert Rochereau in about 30 minutes for an indicative cost of €12.40, where you can then transfer to other public transport. A taxi ride from Orly to Paris typically costs €70-€80.
  • Flights to Paris vary greatly in price, but I have seen round-trip fares from major US cities ranging from approximately $118 to over $700, depending on the origin and time of booking.

By Train:

  • High-speed trains (TGV, Eurostar) link Paris with major cities across France and Europe. For example, a Eurostar journey from London to Paris (Gare du Nord) takes about 2 hours 16 minutes, with tickets starting from around £39. Travel from Paris Gare de Lyon to Lyon can take as little as 1 hour 53 minutes. Train tickets from various French cities to Paris can be found for prices like $46.23 from Rennes or $64.05 from Toulouse.
  • Regional (RER) and local trains connect the capital to its suburbs and are integrated into the city's public transport network. Basic metro/bus tickets cost €2.15, while a dedicated Paris Region–Airports Ticket is €13.00.

By Bus:

  • Long-distance bus services, operated by companies like FlixBus and BlaBlaCar Bus, offer connections to Paris from numerous cities across France and Europe. Ticket prices can be very affordable, with some routes starting from as low as €5.48.
  • Major bus terminals include Paris Gallieni Porte Bagnolet and Gare de Bercy Seine.
