Rennes serves as a significant regional hub for train and bus connections, while Paris acts as the main gateway for international travelers. Free shuttles connect the parking area to the entrance of Mont Saint-Michel.

By Train and Bus Combination:

  • From Paris (Gare Montparnasse): A direct 'Train du Mont-Saint-Michel' to Pontorson is available during high season and weekends, with a guaranteed bus connection to Mont Saint-Michel. This combined train and coach ticket costs approximately €32 (2025 fare) and the journey can take from 3 hours 53 minutes. Alternatively, take a TGV to Rennes (about 2 hours) or Dol de Bretagne (about 2 hours 40 minutes), then transfer to a connecting bus or local TER train to Pontorson.
  • From Rennes: Regular Keolis Armor buses connect directly from the Rennes bus station to Mont Saint-Michel. The bus journey takes approximately 1 hour and costs around €15.
  • From Pontorson: Local buses operate frequently from Pontorson train station to Mont Saint-Michel, taking about 22 minutes. A single ticket costs €4.30 (2025 fare).

By Car:

  • Driving is a flexible option, with a dedicated parking lot located on the mainland, approximately 2.5 kilometers from Mont Saint-Michel. Parking fees include access to the free 'Le Passeur' shuttle.
  • Approximate driving times: From Paris (around 4 hours), Rennes (about 1 hour), Caen (around 1 hour 30 minutes), and Bayeux (about 1 hour 25 minutes).
  • Car rental is available in the Mont Saint-Michel Bay area, with daily rates starting from approximately $43 to $91.

By Organized Tour:

  • Various tour companies offer day trips from major cities like Paris, Bayeux, Caen, and Rennes, providing round-trip transportation typically by coach.

On-site Shuttle/Walk:

  • From the mainland parking area, a free shuttle bus called 'Le Passeur' transports visitors to the entrance of Mont Saint-Michel in about 10-15 minutes. Alternatively, one can walk across the causeway, which takes 30-45 minutes.
