Cambridge's hotel scene offers a range of sophisticated and elegant options, providing a comfortable and culturally rich stay that aligns with the city's historic and academic character.
1. University Arms Hotel
Type: Luxury Hotel
Stepping into this hotel, one is immediately enveloped in an atmosphere of grand elegance with panelled walls and high ceilings. The rooms are spacious and refined, featuring plush furnishings and carefully chosen artwork. I particularly appreciate the comfortable reading nooks, perfect for unwinding with a book after exploring the city. Its central location makes it ideal for easily reaching Cambridge's famous university colleges and landmarks.
2. The Varsity Hotel & Spa
Type: Boutique Hotel
This hotel stands out for its iconic rooftop terrace, where I experienced breathtaking panoramic views of the city's spires and the River Cam. The interior design is chic and understated, and the rooms offer modern comforts. Its prime location near major sights and attractions, along with the spa facilities, make it a truly immersive base for experiencing Cambridge.
3. Gonville Hotel
Type: Boutique Hotel
The Gonville provides a blend of classic sophistication and modern comfort. I found the rooms to be stylish and peaceful. The hotel's unique offerings, such as chauffeur-driven Bentley tours and regular jazz nights in its Atrium Bar, create a memorable stay. Its wellness facilities and thoughtful amenities add to a relaxing experience.
4. Hotel du Vin & Bistro Cambridge
Type: Boutique Hotel
Housed within a charming Grade II listed building, this hotel offers a distinctly elegant atmosphere. The rooms are individually designed, often featuring classic details like roll-top baths and monsoon showers, which I found to be a delightful touch. The hotel's extensive wine cellars and the bistro's dining experience create a refined and cosy setting.
