Getting There and Away

Sokcho primarily relies on its two main bus terminals: the Sokcho Express Bus Terminal and the Sokcho Intercity Bus Terminal, which are located approximately 3 kilometers apart. Currently, there is no active passenger train station or commercial airport within Sokcho itself; however, a new KTX high-speed rail line to Seoul is anticipated by 2027.

From Seoul by Express Bus:

  • Buses from Dong Seoul Bus Terminal typically arrive at Sokcho Intercity Bus Terminal. The journey takes approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes to 3 hours, with fares ranging from ₩17,200 to ₩26,000.
  • Buses from Seoul Express Bus Terminal in Gangnam go to Sokcho Express Bus Terminal. This direct route usually takes about 2 hours and 20 minutes to 3 hours, with costs between ₩13,000 and ₩23,000 (approximately US$12.29 - US$20.65).

From Incheon International Airport (ICN) by Bus:

  • A direct intercity bus service (Kumgang Express) operates from Incheon International Airport (Terminals 1 & 2) to Sokcho Intercity Bus Terminal, making a stop at Gimpo Airport. This service runs twice daily from Incheon, with departures at 10: 10 AM and 3:10 PM. The travel time is approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes, and fares are around ₩30,000 to ₩41,000.
  • Alternatively, take an airport bus or subway to a major Seoul bus terminal (Dong Seoul or Seoul Express) and transfer to a Sokcho-bound bus. This option can take around 3 hours and 31 minutes, with similar total costs.

From Gimpo International Airport (GMP) by Bus:

  • The direct intercity bus service from Incheon Airport to Sokcho also stops at Gimpo Airport. Departures from Sokcho to Gimpo are at 4: 30 AM, 9:30 AM, and 2:00 PM. The estimated travel time from Gimpo to Sokcho is about 3 hours and 16 minutes, with fares ranging from ₩14,000 to ₩25,000.

By Train (Indirect):

  • There is currently no direct train service to Sokcho. One indirect option involves taking a KTX train from Seoul Station to Gangneung Station, followed by a bus transfer from Gangneung Intercity Bus Terminal to Sokcho Intercity Bus Terminal. This combined journey takes approximately 3 hours and 37 minutes and costs between ₩30,619 and ₩46,614.

By Car Rental:

  • Driving from Seoul to Sokcho typically takes under 3 hours. Car rental costs can start from approximately ₩38,961 to ₩56,277 per day (around US$50).
