Ginzan Onsen is home to a curated collection of traditional ryokan, each offering a unique take on the classic Japanese hot spring inn experience.
1. Notoya Ryokan
Type: Traditional Ryokan
Stepping into Notoya Ryokan feels like a journey back in time, with its preserved wooden architecture from the Taisho Era. As a registered Tangible Cultural Property, it exudes a nostalgic charm, offering spacious traditional rooms and private outdoor onsen baths. The staff, often dressed in traditional attire, are attentive, and the delicate Japanese cuisine served showcases local ingredients, making for a deeply authentic stay.
2. Fujiya Ryokan
Type: Modern Luxury Ryokan
Fujiya Ryokan presents a modern interpretation of the traditional inn, designed by the acclaimed architect Kengo Kuma. The eight-room establishment features sleek, art-gallery-like interiors with fine bamboo screens and stained glass, creating a distinctive ambiance. Guests can enjoy five uniquely themed private hot spring baths, ensuring a secluded and luxurious onsen experience, complemented by exquisite Japanese meals served directly in their rooms.
3. Honkan Kosekiya
Type: Renovated Historic Ryokan
Reopened in 2022 after extensive renovations, Honkan Kosekiya combines historical elements with modern comforts, embodying a 'Japan Deco' style. This registered National Tangible Cultural Property offers an all-inclusive stay, where guests can enjoy all food and beverages, including alcoholic drinks, throughout their visit. The ryokan features two distinct indoor hot spring baths, and guests have access to the open-air baths at its sister hotel, Ginzanso.
4. Ginzanso
Type: Modern Ryokan
Located at the entrance to Ginzan Onsen, Ginzanso provides a blend of traditional Japanese hospitality with modern facilities. Its 46 Japanese-style rooms each include a private bath and toilet, with many also featuring their own private onsen. Guests can enjoy both indoor and outdoor public hot spring baths that offer scenic views of the surrounding river and mountains. A shuttle bus service to and from the train station adds convenience, and the kaiseki cuisine is often praised.
