Xi'an is served by Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (XIY) for air travel, and two primary railway stations: Xi'an Railway Station and Xi'an North Railway Station, which act as central hubs for rail connections.

By Air:

  • Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (XIY) connects to major cities in China and offers international flights to destinations including Japan, South Korea, Central Asia, and Europe.
  • From the airport to the city center, shuttle buses are available for approximately CNY 25, taking 1 to 2 hours.
  • Metro Line 14 and then Line 2 can transport travelers from the airport to the city center, with a journey time of 45 minutes to 1.5 hours and costs around CNY 8-15.
  • Taxis offer a direct route, typically costing CNY 120-150 to the downtown area, with a travel time of about 45-60 minutes.

By Train:

  • High-speed trains (G and D series), primarily from Xi'an North Railway Station, connect Xi'an to major cities.
  • Travel to Beijing takes about 4.5-6 hours, with second-class tickets costing CNY 466-577.5 (approx. USD 65-81).
  • Journeys to Shanghai are around 6-7 hours, and to Chengdu, about 3-4 hours.
  • Quicker trips include Luoyang in about 1.5 hours and Huashan in roughly 30 minutes.
  • Conventional trains (K, T, Z series) operate from Xi'an Railway Station, connecting to many cities across China.
  • A conventional train journey to Beijing can take 12-17.5 hours, with hard sleeper tickets around CNY 272.5-288.5 and hard seat tickets around CNY 148.5-156.5.

By Long-Distance Bus:

  • Xi'an has several bus stations offering connections to over 300 cities and counties across 18 provinces.
  • While ticket prices are generally lower, long-distance bus travel may involve more hardship and fatigue compared to trains or flights.
