Explore thousands of Buddha statues and intricate carvings etched into limestone cliffs along the Yi River. This UNESCO World Heritage site showcases over 1,400 years of Buddhist art, with the 17.14-meter-tall Rocana Buddha as a highlight. It is recommended to spend 2-3 hours exploring the site, with the West Hill offering the most significant carvings. Visiting at sunset can provide breathtaking photographic opportunities as the grottoes are illuminated.
Cost: The standard adult entrance fee is 90 CNY. An electric cart within the site is available for 10 CNY. Official in-person guided tours cost 200 CNY for the West Hill Grottoes (up to 5 people) and 100 CNY for other sections, with an additional 10 CNY per extra person. Transport: A taxi from downtown Luoyang costs approximately 20-70 CNY and takes around 20-30 minutes, directing to the Northwest Service Area for closer access. Public buses, such as Line 81 or 60 from Luoyang Railway Station, or Line 53 from Luoyang Longmen Railway Station, are available for 2-3 CNY and take about 30-40 minutes. Metro Line 2 also connects to Longmen Shi Ku station, from which a taxi or bus can be taken.
