Mazunte, a tranquil beach town, does not have its own major transport hubs. The nearest airports are Bahías de Huatulco International Airport (HUX) and Puerto Escondido Airport (PXM), both approximately 1 to 1.5 hours away by car. San Pedro Pochutla is a crucial local transport center, located about 20-30 minutes from Mazunte.

From Oaxaca City:

  • Vans/Colectivos:: Direct passenger vans, such as Lineas Unidas, travel to Zipolite (a short distance from Mazunte) via the new highway in approximately 4 hours, costing around $300-$420 MXN. You can then take a short camioneta or taxi to Mazunte.
  • Flights:: Fly with Aerotucán from Oaxaca City (OAX) to Puerto Escondido (PXM) or Huatulco (HUX), a flight of about 30-45 minutes. From either airport, onward public transport to Mazunte takes approximately 1.5 hours.
  • Private Transfer:: A private car transfer from Oaxaca to Mazunte can take 3.5 to 6 hours, with costs ranging from $6500-$9000 MXN ($329-$470 USD) depending on the vehicle size.

From Puerto Escondido:

  • Bus and Colectivo:: Take a local bus from Puerto Escondido towards Pochutla, asking to be dropped off at San Antonio (often marked by an Oxxo). This bus costs about $68 MXN and takes 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. From San Antonio, board a 'camioneta' (shared pickup truck) to Mazunte for around $20 MXN, taking about 20 minutes. The total journey can take 1.5 to 2.5 hours.
  • Taxi:: A taxi from Puerto Escondido to Mazunte costs approximately $800-$1100 MXN ($35-$50 USD) and takes about 1 hour 15 minutes.
  • Car Rental:: Self-driving is an option, with a straightforward route between the two towns.

From Huatulco:

  • Bus and Colectivo:: Take a bus or shared taxi from Huatulco towards Pochutla, costing around $45-$50 MXN. From Pochutla, a 'camioneta' or colectivo to Mazunte is available for about $20 MXN. The total public transport time is approximately 1.5 hours.
  • Taxi:: A taxi from Huatulco Airport to Mazunte can cost $822-$2000 MXN ($40-$110 USD) and the journey takes about 47 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes.

From Mexico City:

  • Flights:: Fly to Puerto Escondido (PXM) or Huatulco (HUX). Flights are typically around 1.5 hours. From there, follow the local transport options to Mazunte.
  • Bus:: A direct bus to Pochutla from Mexico City's south bus station (TAPO or Central del Sur Taxqueña) takes approximately 14-16.5 hours and costs $1200-$1900 MXN.
